  1. This diskette contains four programs/files:

  3.    FORTUNE  - this is the main fortune program.
  4.    BYE.LNS  - file of fortunes (cookies)
  5.    FORTUNER - a resident version of fortune (has limited options)
  6.    RANGEN - This Util will tell you how random Fortune will be on your system.
  7.    FORTCONV - A utility provide for those users that prefer to use a
  8.                non-standard version of the Bye.Lns file.
  9.    MORE_LNS.ARC - This file contains a host of other BYE.LNS for use with
  10.                   Fortune.  The unARC program will extract the lines file
  11.                   for you.  Read the FORTUNE.DOC file to see how to tell
  12.                   FORTUNE to use the file.

  14. Each file comes with associated documentation.  See the file FORTUNE.DOC
  15. for updates (bottom of file).

  28. Sample Setup:
  29.  
  30.     Put all the Fortune programs in a directory called FORTUNE.  Copy the
  31. Fortune.Com program to your BIN directory (or some directory that is in the
  32. path).  Unarc the MORE_LNS.ARC file to extract MORE_BYE.LNS.
  33.    Add the following lines to your AUTOEXEC.BAT file:
  34.      SET LINES=c:\fortune\bye.lns;c:\fortune\more_bye.lns
  35.      SET NAME={your name}
  36.      SET FORTUNE={any default parameters you may want set}

  38.    The last line of you autoexec.bat file should be FORTUNE.  This will give
  39.  you a random fortune everytime you boot your computer and use both of the
  40.  bye.lns files.  Enjoy!
